Egyptian Magic. Illustrated
Egyptian Magic by renowned Egyptologist E. A. Wallis Budge is a fascinating exploration of the spiritual and mystical practices of ancient Egypt. Drawing from temple inscriptions, papyri, tomb texts, and archaeological findings, Budge presents a comprehensive account of the magical beliefs that shaped daily life, religion, and the afterlife in one of the world's oldest civilizations.
In this richly illustrated edition, Budge delves into the nature of ancient Egyptian magic - a blend of religion, science, and supernatural belief. He examines the role of priests, magical spells, protective amulets, incantations, and the invocation of deities such as Isis, Thoth, and Osiris. The book also explores themes like love charms, curse rituals, healing magic, and the magical significance of colors, numbers, and symbols.
One of the key features of this work is its focus on the connection between magic and the Egyptian worldview: that the divine permeated every aspect of existence, and that magic was a means of maintaining harmony with the cosmos. Budge also compares Egyptian practices with those of other ancient cultures, offering valuable historical context.
A classic in the field of Egyptology, Egyptian Magic remains a valuable resource for both scholars and general readers. With its detailed illustrations and insightful commentary, this edition brings to life the mysterious and powerful world of Egyptian spirituality, revealing how magic was not only a belief system but a way of understanding the universe and protecting the soul on its eternal journey.
