25 Fables - Tangrams
share

An outstanding new translation of a French classic. Christopher Carsten offers a modern, learned and witty translation of a selection of La Fontaine's fables. Through the translator's bold translation choices and his sense of humour, the 350-year old fables acutely resonate with today's world. This bilingual edition of the Fables takes the reader on a poetic journey between the French and English languages. Edith de Tarragon's tangram illustrations make it a very appropriate edition for a young public. The translator invites the reader to enjoy the musicality of the text by means of videos indicated by flashcodes. Presented by Michael Edwards, from the French Academy.

Jean de La Fontaine
Jean de La Fontaine (UK: , US: ; French: ; 8 July 1621 – 13 April 1695) was a French fabulist and one of the most widely read French poets of the 17th century. He is known above all for his Fables, which provided a model for subsequent fabulists across Europe and numerous alternative versions in France, as well as in French regional languages.
After a long period of royal suspicion, he was admitted to the Académie Française and his reputation in France has never faded since. Evidence of this is found in the many pictures and statues of the writer, later depictions on medals, coins and postage stamps.
