Um dia, um troll diabólico fez um espelho que mostrava tudo de belo como feio e tudo de bom como mau. Encantados, os trolls decidiram levar o espelho para o céu e zombar dos anjos, mas no caminho o espelho se despedaçou e pedaços se espalharam pelo mundo. Foi assim que alguns se tornaram janelas e outros se transformaram em óculos, mas os mais infelizes receberam pequenos pedaços nos olhos ou no coração, mudando a vida para sempre. Foi o que aconteceu com o pequeno Kay, para o grande desgosto de sua vizinha, Gerda, e foi assim que ele cruzou o caminho da rainha da neve.

Hans Christian Andersen
Hans Christian Andersen ( AN-dər-sən; Danish: ; 2 April 1805 – 4 August 1875) was a Danish writer. A prolific writer of plays, travelogues, novels, and poems, he is also best remembered for his literary fairy tales.
Andersen's fairy tales, consisting of 156 stories across nine volumes, have been translated into more than 125 languages. They have become embedded in Western collective consciousness, accessible to children as well as presenting lessons known for their virtue. His most famous fairy tales include "The Emperor's New Clothes", "The Little Mermaid", "The Nightingale", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier", "The Red Shoes", "The Princess and the Pea", "The Snow Queen", "The Ugly Duckling", "The Little Match Girl", and "Thumbelina." Andersen's stories have inspired ballets, plays, and animated and live-action films.
