**Daphné du Maurier** (1907-1989) est une romancière britannique célèbre pour ses récits atmosphériques et ses intrigues captivantes. Petite-fille de l’illustrateur **George du Maurier** et fille de l’acteur **Gerald du Maurier**, elle s’installe en 1932 en Cornouailles, région qui inspirera nombre de ses œuvres. Auteure prolifique, elle a publié **29 romans** et de nombreuses nouvelles, dont plusieurs ont été adaptées au cinéma, notamment par Alfred Hitchcock. *L’Auberge de la Jamaïque*, publié en 1936, est l’un de ses premiers grands succès, mêlant aventure, suspense et une description saisissante des paysages sauvages de Cornouailles.
