A l'occasion du 25e anniversaire de mort de dom Norbert Calmels (1908-1985), de l'abbaye de Saint-Michel de Frigolet, ce volume rassemble la correspondance échangée par ce religieux qui fut général de l'Ordre des Prémontrés avec l'écrivain Marcel Pagnol (1895-1974). Si ce dernier est l'auteur et l'homme de cinéma bien connu, dom Calmels est aussi une belle figure de religieux, qui s'illustra pendant la résistance, dans les relations avec l'Islam et auprès du pape Jean-Paul II. De 1954 à 1974, le moine et l'écrivain échangent une soixantaine de lettres qui traduisent une attention réciproque et une véritable amitié. Si les deux personnages se retrouvent dans un même enracinement dans la Provence (dom Calmels écrira d'ailleurs sur Mistral et Mireille), ils échangent dans cette correspondance sur des points d'histoire (dont la question controversée du Masque de fer) et également sur des questions plus spirituelles.
