En délivrant un puma pris dans un piège, Yakari prive Nuage-d'Orgueil d'une proie qu'il pourchasse depuis longtemps et avec obstination. Furieux et humilié, le chasseur exige devant le Conseil de la tribu que Yakari l'aide à retrouver la piste du puma. Si Yakari accepte, c'est dans le but secret de sauver le puma. Pour y arriver, le petit sioux devra percer le mystère de l'acharnement du chasseur et toucher son coeur.
Qui chevauchera en tête de la grande migration des Sioux vers le sud ? La tradition veut que ce soit au plus ancien, Roc-Tranquille, de désigner l'élu. Mais, irrité par des chasseurs trop vantards, le vieux sioux change les règles : le jeu est ouvert à tous, adulte comme papooses, et celui qui retrouvera le tomahawk sacré que l'ancien a caché en forêt, chevauchera en tête du convoi. Mais, Yakari découvre que l'objet n'est plus là où l'ancien l'a dissimulé, des animaux l'ont déplacé. Grace à son pouvoir de parler aux animaux et son courage, le papoose retrouve l'objet et partage la tête du convoi avec ses amis Arc-En-Ciel et Graine-De-Bison.
C'est la panique chez les Sioux : tous les bisons ont mystérieusement disparu ! Sans eux, et avec l'hiver qui approche, la tribu ne pourra pas survivre. Grand Aigle prévient Yakari : "Trouve le cheval bleu et tu trouveras les bisons." Un cheval bleu ? Mais ça n'existe pas ! En compagnie de ses amis, le petit Sioux se met pourtant en quête du mystérieux cheval...
Yakari et ses amis sont tout excités : dans l'enclos des chevaux, un poulain est né ! Très vite, Arc-en-Ciel s'attache à lui. Mais un matin, les loups attaquent l'enclos. Les guerriers les repoussent mais, trop tard : le poulain a disparu ! Yakari ne veut pas avoir à annoncer cette terrible nouvelle à son amie Arc-en-Ciel. Alors, accompagné de Petit Tonnerre, il se lance à la recherche du petit animal.
During one of his outings, Yakari catches a glimpse of a white bear and, taking it for a ghost at first, runs away. Later, determined to find the strange animal that no one else believes he’s really seen, he leaves the camp alone and, having found the bear, makes a new friend. A recluse friend, though, who doesn’t want Yakari telling anyone about him … Unfortunately, the young Sioux’s behaviour draws the attention of a hunter who dreams of a white trophy ….

Yakari meets his friend Great Eagle in his dreams. His wish of seeing him "for real" will come true the day that he manages to be like him. So Yakari tries to fly, but in vain. Then he saves his friend Rainbow from an attack by a mother Puma. And finally he saves the life of the mustang Little Thunder, stuck on a mountain ledge. It is with Little Thunder that Yakari discovers his formidable talent: he can talk to the animals. As a reward for his numerous exploits, Great Eagle gives Yakari his most beautiful feather. But nobody in his tribe will believe the little Indian...
After a long rainy spell, large stretches of the prairie are flooded, much to the displeasure of most of its inhabitants. Yakari visits his friends to make sure everyone is all right, then falls asleep that night and dreams of clouds mysteriously coming out of the water. The young Sioux's dreams are not always completely random, though, and the next day he rides out in search of signs. What he will find will soon unite all his friends in a desperate rescue mission ...
Arc-en-Ciel participe pour la première fois à la grande course du solstice. Malgré ses qualités de cavalière, elle transmet son trac à son cheval, Grand Gris, qui n'arrive plus à sauter les obstacles. La petite indienne est prête à abandonner la course... Mais la nuit venue, elle réalise que Grand Gris est parti du campement. Avec Yakari, elle se lance à sa recherche dans la montagne.
While trying to save a bear cub from drowning, Yakari falls into the river and hits his head on a rock. By the time he washes ashore and is found by a distraught bear mother, he has forgotten who he is. The she-bear is convinced that he is her son, turned into a human by the Bear Spirit, and begins to train him for his new life. Can Yakari's friends find him before he disappears into his new world for good?
In the middle of the night, a daring thief from another tribe makes off with the horses of Yakari's people. Only Little Thunder managed to escape him by fleeing into the forest. While the warriors hurry after their precious mounts, Yakari goes in search of his friend ... who is himself trailing the thief! Once the two groups converge near a huge camp, Yakari will have to display extraordinary cleverness to help his folk...
The Beavers are very worried: Linden Tree, Yakari's yound and mischievous friend, has lost his appetite for ... well, everything. And his people have no time to devote to him, as they must repair their precious dam, damaged by heavy rains. While the young Sioux attempts to dispel his friend's melancholy, Thousand-mouths suddenly realises he is several labourers short of a full work gang. Is something in the lake going after the hard-working beavers?
Nanabozo, the Great Rabbit, is... well, a giant rabbit. He's also a powerful sorcerer, and Rainbow's spirit guide, as Great Eagle is for Yakari. When he appears to the young Sioux to tell him his charge has disappeared, little Yakari is swept up in a quest that will make him turn into a giant, run on smoke, fly, and travel to the ice banks where the polar bears play.

Yakari discovers a colony of beavers busy building their dam. There we find Thousand-mouths, the short-tempered building site boss; Wooden-Dam, the smiling old wise man; Wooden-Bed, the sleepyhead; Double-Tooth, the eternally inspired sculptor... and last but not least Little Linden Tree, a lively kid. While they are bathing, this infernal little beaver disappears. Yakari will find him exploring the underground waterways of the river. Linden Tree will, of course, receive his first smacking (Rough-Bark, his father, is so worried!) and Double-Tooth will finally be able to present his masterpiece to the amazed colony.
A strange eagle has wounded a brave from Yakari's tribe and stolen his talisman. To recover it and allow the man to wake from his unnatural slumber, young Yakari will have to climb a mountain to find the eagle's nest. Forced to go alone when Little Thunder can't follow anymore, he will have to make new friends-with sure feet and warm coats-and brave the majestic bird's proud anger.
It's summer on the prairie, a hot, oppressive summer that has everyone's temper flaring. While Yakari's family, eager to find the buffalo they are tracking, has moved some distance from the other Sioux, nature suddenly unleashes its rage, and a tornado tears through the main camp. Tipis torn, supplies scattered, the tribe must now rebuild ... but there are also several people missing, blown away by the twister and perhaps injured or trapped. Yakari sets out to look for them ...
In the middle of winter, while Yakari and his friends play in the snow, the tribe's hunters kill a terrified wapiti. A welcome catch, for the stocks of food are running low. But the next day, all the meat that had been left to dry has disappeared! The hunters set out after the thief, and soon begin to suspect a bear. Yakari then decides to visit his furry friends to identify the culprit ...
One day when heavy rains force them to play inside, Yakari and Rainbow are startled by a strange sound. To their amazement, it's followed by their whole tipi suddenly taking off and flying straight north, with them inside! After several hours of a not entirely pleasant journey, they're greeted on landing by Rainbow's spirit guide Nanabozho, the Great Rabbit, who wants them to meet the inhabitants of the great north. Among those is a mysterious white bird ...
Yakari learns from the tribe's elder that the Sioux haven't always been the magnificent riders they are now - indeed, that there was a time they didn't even know what a horse was. Shaken, he speaks a little too demandingly to Little Thunder, wounding his four-legged friend who immediately runs away. Devastated, the young boy will have to track down his companion and find a way to earn his forgiveness if he ever wants to share a gallop with him again...
Yakari gets to know the ways of the lord of the plains: the buffalo. After a hunt that brought the tribe much needed supplies, Yakari is visited in his dreams by the buffalo, killed the day of his birth, whose pelt still serves as his blanket. Intrigued, the young Sioux and Little Thunder go see the great herd. From encounter to encounter, and by helping a young mother and her newborn calf against a particularly nasty wolf, Yakari learns to know those majestic animals so important to his own people's survival...
Yakari wakes up one morning to find a series of arrows forming a trail. Following it, he soon finds himself the exasperated victim of pranks, mockeries and other vexing tomfoolery by an unknown bear cub. The young joker's hideout is a massive burrow, with multiple galleries and entrances. It's all very innocent and tame, but even the most harmless of pranks can turn dangerous when bad luck strikes...
Little Thunder is quite an astounding pony, and he and Yakari truly are the best of friends. So when upon waking up one morning, he discovers that his mount has left the village, the young Sioux boy is devastated. He tries to find his friend, but is forced to give up as the trail grows cold: whatever it is that drives Little Thunder, he's heading due south as fast as he can. What is it that calls out to him?
When the beavers bring Yakari a battered old canoe, the young Sioux and his friends repair it and go for a little trip-and find more adventure than they bargained for, in the person of a father coyote. Fortunately, their new friend is up to his reputation for cunning: When Buffalo Seed is cornered by an angry puma, it will take all of the coyote's tricks, combined with Yakari's bravery, to get the young hunter out of his predicament.
